Baldwin Borough Police Briefs (June 27-July 4)

Suspected drunk driver flips vehicle into woods past cul-de-sac on Churchview Avenue.

On June 27 at approximately 4:42 a.m.,  were dispatched to the 3900 block of Churchview Avenue for a report of a vehicle that had traveled beyond a cul-de-sac and over a hillside there.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they were greeted by the driver of that vehicle—William Proud, 23, of 803 Nordeen Drive in West Mifflin Borough—who said that he did not see the end of the road in time to apply his brakes. As such, Proud and his vehicle traveled approximately 100 feet off of the road and into a wooded area. Proud's vehicle had flipped onto its roof and was stuck between some trees. Proud crawled out of the vehicle and made his way back to Churchview, where he was met by emergency respondents.

According to 's police report, a Baldwin officer reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Proud. That officer also reported that Proud admitted to having consumed "about nine beers" that night.

Proud denied medical treatment, the police report said.

Police arrested Proud for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and transported him to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.

Proud was eventually taken to his home and released to the custody of his mother.

In addition to the DUI charge, police are charging Proud with careless driving.
