On June 26 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of Churchview Avenue for a one-vehicle accident. The car had struck a utility pole at that location.
The officer reported that the driver of the vehicle—its lone occupant—was passed out behind its steering wheel upon the officer’s arrival.
The officer also reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver—later identified as Erika L. Wodarek, 40, of 5934 Dashwood Drive in Bethel Park—and finding a beverage in a car cup-holder that also smelled of alcohol.
arrived at the scene and took Wodarek to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
The officer met Wodarek at the hospital at around 3 a.m. that same day when Wodarek had regained consciousness. Wodarek agreed to give a sample of her blood for testing, according to the officer. Results of that blood test are pending.
Police are charging Wodarek with driving under the influence of alcohol.
A spokesperson for UPMC Mercy said that Wodarek was released from the hospital later that day.
