Baldwin Borough Police Briefs (Jan. 16-22)

Two cited for underage drinking, one for DUI, and another DUI on East Carson Street.

Two Cited for Underage Drinking, One for DUI

A officer on patrol in south Baldwin at around 4:12 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, reported observing a motorist with an inoperable brake light turn left onto Curry Hollow Road from Keeport Drive without signaling.

The officer pulled the motorist—Matthew Joseph Madden, 19, of 1223 McClure Ave., Apt. 1, in East McKeesport Borough—over on Curry Hollow, and upon approaching Madden and his passenger—Hailey Lynne Wootton, 18, of 5470 Youngridge Drive, Apt. 6, in Baldwin’s —reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

The officer put Madden and Wootton through breath-analyzer tests and reported that they both failed them.

The officer also put Madden through field-sobriety tests and reported that he failed those, as well. He arrested Madden for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and took him to the Baldwin police station, where he reported that he twice failed additional breath-analyzer tests.

Wootton was taken home and released to the custody of her mother. Wootton’s mother eventually came to the Baldwin police station to take custody of Madden, as well.

Madden is also being charged with underage drinking, as is Wootton.

DUI on East Carson Street

A police officer on patrol in north Baldwin at around 1:19 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, reported observing a motorist failing to obey a red light and speeding at the intersection of Becks Run Road and East Carson Street.

The officer followed the motorist—Patrick McCormick, 22, of 907 Elmwood St. in Port Vue Borough—as McCormick traveled south down East Carson and reported that he continued to operate his vehicle at an unsafe speed, as the road was wet and icy.

The officer eventually caught up to McCormick near the Glenwood Bridge in Pittsburgh’s Hays neighborhood, where the officer reported that he exited onto Mifflin Road and began passing other vehicles without signaling.

The officer pulled McCormick over near a Streets Run Road exit, and upon approaching him, reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage. 

The officer did not put McCormick through field-sobriety tests due to weather conditions. The officer reported that McCormick did fail a breath-analyzer test, though, and arrested him for suspicion of DUI.

The officer took McCormick to the Baldwin police station, where another officer reported that he twice failed additional breath-analyzer tests.

McCormick was eventually released to the custody of friends.
