Arrest for DUI, Drugs in North Baldwin

Motorist will be charged with a number of offenses.

A man is being charged with driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs and possession of both a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after his vehicle was pulled over on Mifflin Road in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood by a Baldwin Borough police officer in the early morning of Sept. 22.

According to a police report, the man—David Alan Hitt, 24, of Homeridge Dr. in the New Homestead neighborhood—failed to dim his vehicle's high beams while driving south toward the officer on north Baldwin's stretch of East Carson Street/River Road at around 3:34 that day.

The officer turned around and followed Hitt's vehicle, reporting that Hitt exited East Carson for Mifflin Road and drove erratically on Mifflin before being pulled over.

The officer reported smelling alcohol on Hitt's breath and burnt marijuana in his vehicle. He also reported that Hitt admitted to recently drinking alcohol and having marijuana and a smoking pipe inside the vehicle.

The officer put Hitt through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and taking him to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test. Results of that test are pending.
