Thank the Lord that no one was hurt in this robbery.

It's terrible that we are hearing more and more about robberies and bank robberies these days. I know it is difficult for us to get a job these days because of the state of the country and high unemployment ... but really, do they have to stoop to this? The employees at Citizens are very nice and I am thankful that no one was hurt. Glad they gave a good description of the suspect on the news yesterday. Hopefully, the thief will be caught and punished.

Democrats want to take away my 2 Amendment Rights. I also believe in carrying a gun and do have a permit to carry a concealed wepon.
Jon Wain June 16, 2012 at 07:03 PM
So jean what are you saying .If you would of witnessed the hold up in progress you would start a gun fight .In the store or perhaps outside the store.Having a permit doesn't mean your qualified to take the law into your own hands. And to boot JEAN your amendments were written 200 years ago when guns killed people not people killing people. It was an amendment written by thieves and law breakers just as we have now.Yes you got a right to carry but we have a right to live and not be killed because guns are so God like
Judy Thompson June 16, 2012 at 11:06 PM
Jean - When do you shop? I`d like to know so that I`m not there at the same time! I cringe when I think of armed "citizens" shopping when I shop! Are we living in Tombstone or Dodge City? Yikes!
Sasafras Jackson June 18, 2012 at 04:10 PM
If I were in Giant Eagle when this happened, I would have done my best to keep everyone safe by passive aggressive tactics. I cannot condone the use of force when someone is wielding a weapon in the public’s vicinity. I commend the bank employees that did their best to comfort all involved and hope that this is a deterrent that we are not going to stand for this! “You’ve got to know when to hold’em, when to fold’em, know when to walk away, and know when to run” – Kenny Rogers circa 1978.
Jean Smith June 18, 2012 at 11:54 PM
No Jon I would of not started a gun fight. But I do believe in the 2nd Amendment that everyone has a right to own a gun to protect their property. In the town of Kennesaw, Georgia, since they required each family to have a gun, there has been 3 killings since then and their crime rate dropped to almost non existence. Responsible people who own guns aren't the ones that are doing robberies and just shooting at anyone.

I'm pretty sure there wasn't one mention in Jean's post of starting a gun fight. In fact, when you go through training (as any responsible gun owner will do), you learn about who you can/can't defend, when you can/can't defend and the 5 step process you go through to diffuse a situation before you consider using a firearm. I can understand that gun ownership is a polarizing topic, but putting words in Jean's mouth and assuming that all gun owners are itching to play "shoot 'em up" is a bit ridiculous. All of the gun owners I know respect the gun, handle and store it safely, get extensive and ongoing training and would not think of casually handling/using their gun. I think the point Jean is making is that she carries a gun for her own personal protection, which is her constitutional right. And when crime is as close to home as it inevitably is, she seems comfortable knowing that she has a means to protect herself and her family, should she become a target of crime. You have an equal constitutionial right NOT to carry a firearm. And sorry, Jon, but guns still kill people and generally speaking, it's not the responsible, licensed-to-carry individuals you need to worry about. I'm glad to know that Jean and others are out there armed and ready to protect themselves. Hopefully the "bad guys" will think twice when thinking about commiting a crime. What scares me more than responsible gun owners is the hysterical reaction to someone exercising their constsitutional right.

Judy hate to tell you but there are a lot of people that carry concealed weapons in grocery stores, in malls, etc. You just don't know how to spot someone in a store carrying a gun on their person. Were as, when I walk in a store, I could point out to you ever person that has a gun on their person. I'm not taking in a purse either.
Jean Smith June 23, 2012 at 11:35 PM
Sasafras, I agree with you, I would of tried to keep everyone calm around me, I would of never of brought my gun out to put people in danger, that would of been totally stupid. Maybe some of you should go take a gun safety course, you don't have to own a gun to take one. Just like someone that learns Martial Arts, they teach you respect first before they get into lessons and never to use what you learn on anyone when your angry.

The "Four Universal Rules of Firearm Safety" are listed below. However, please recognize that you need to take proper training by an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor in order to adequately understand them and apply them intelligently. THE FOUR UNIVERSAL RULES OF GUN SAFETY ARE: 1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded. Many avoidable tragedies are the result of careless handling of guns that were assumed to be UNLOADED. 2. Never point any firearm at anything you do not intend to destroy. Never horse around with firearms 3. Whenever you pick up and handle any firearm, always keep your finger off of the trigger and out of the trigger guard unless your sights are on a legitimate target AND you have made the decision to begin shooting at that target. 4. Before you shoot at a target, make sure you know your target and that it is safe to shoot at it. Never shoot at a target you are unsure of and have not identified as a legitimate target. Make sure you know what is around your target so that the bullets from your firearm do not strike anything or anybody unintended.

OMG Judy! Wake up! There are lots of armed citizens where you shop. They just have concealed weapons because it is a CONCEALED weapons permit. I have one too and have for years. One of these days it might just be one of us armed citizens who saves your life or the life of one of your loved ones. And yes, I have been trained to use it and would if I had to. It also cuts crime because a robber doesn't know who has one and who doesn't and won't take a chance robbing. But we all know now that you don't have one. See you in Giant Eagle. LOL
Margaret French June 24, 2012 at 01:45 AM
Amen Mary!
Judy Thompson June 24, 2012 at 09:34 PM
"One of these days it might just be one of us armed citizens who saves your life or the life of one of your loved ones" - Margaret, I think you may be watching too many "Bonanza" re-runs! IF I need to be defended, I will wait for the police, whom I know are well trained to deal with emergency situations, to defend me. Vigilante justice is not something that I ever wish to see in Whitehall. "You just don't know how to spot someone in a store carrying a gun on their person. Were as, when I walk in a store," - Jean Smith, - Sadly, I am too busy to be on the lookout for vigilantes. You might want to cut back on "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke" too!
Jean Smith June 24, 2012 at 10:50 PM
Judy one day you might be a victim of a car jacking just like what happen up on Macassar Drive in Baldwin, and your going to wait for the police to protect you. You wouldn't want someone that had a permit to carry a gun to maybe save your life and make sure your car isn't taken. A person that gets a permit to carry a concealed weapon is trained in emergency situations also. Sorry Judy, I'm not busy on the lookout for vigilantes, but when your standing in a grocery store line and you see their gun underneath their shirt on a holster or tucked in the back of their pants you kinda notice it, at least I do, but to the average person, you would not know if a person is carrying or not. Like Margaret says, someday someone that carries a concealed weapon might save your life or one of your family. You would be thanking then then.

Judy-you are living in a dream world. The only thing the cops are going to do is investigate your death. Imagine if someone in LA Fitness had a gun that time a few years ago and had an opportunity to shoot the gunman before he shot more. I am sitting here shaking my head. I can't believe you are that stupid.
Judy Thompson June 25, 2012 at 02:32 AM
Margaret - I could call you all kinds of names (like paranoid), but I will not stoop to your level. You have NO right or reason to call me, "stupid"! You are very RUDE!
Margaret French June 25, 2012 at 05:00 AM
I just tell it like it is and I am not paranoid. Watch the news and see what is happening around you. I am not being paranoid, I am being safe.
Frank June 25, 2012 at 05:23 AM
I'll tell O'l Ben Cartwright to watch for the posse heading over from the hills. We'll cut thru Virginia City and make it to the Ponderosa by sunset.
Margaret French June 25, 2012 at 05:42 AM
LOL Frank
Jean Smith June 25, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Margaret I so Agree with you on the shooting at LA Fitness.
Jean Smith June 25, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Frank is that the South Hills or North Hills, LOL
Jean Smith June 25, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Judy since your an expert on Bonanza and Gunsmoke, when are they on tv so that I can watch them. Margaret and Frank do you want to come watch them too?
Jean Smith June 25, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Judy no were in the post did she call you names, she said you were living in a dream world and to think the cops are going to save you, are you going to say to the gunman, hold on I need to call the cops so that they can protect me? I don't think so.
Margaret French June 25, 2012 at 07:04 PM
Woohoo! Bonanza i coming on now! I am going to change my ID to Hoss Cartwright! LOL
Sasafras Jackson June 25, 2012 at 09:34 PM
haha. lol. This is a situation where, we in the Jackson household (namely Mamma Jack), would say, "I will swing my weaves to that!" haha. lol. Hope everyone is having a good summer.
Margaret French June 26, 2012 at 12:21 AM
LOL Sasafras! You and yours have a good summer too! Have a safe one!
cc June 26, 2012 at 12:27 AM
Judy Thompson, I have to agree with Margaret and Jean, if someone was was trying to steal my car at gunpoint, rob me , I most certainly would appreciate it and wouldn't know how to thank them if they saved my life or someone in my families. Guns don't kill people, people do and it isn't the ones that have gun permits or a permit to carry a concealed weapon that kill. It is all the stupid people that steal guns or buys them on the black market that does this, drive by shootings, robberies. Grow up Judy.
