New Year's Day Accident on East Carson Street

Two vehicles collided with one another on East Carson Street between Becks Run Road and the Glenwood Bridge area in north  at around 5:25 p.m. on New Year's Day, causing East Carson to be closed in that area for about one-and-a-half hours while one driver was mechanically removed from a vehicle.

The driver who caused the accident was traveling south on East Carson behind another vehicle when he attempted to pass it. The passing vehicle did not get out of the opposite, northbound lane of traffic in time to avoid a collision with a northbound vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle that was being passed witnessed the accident close-up but was not injured. Amazingly, the witness' vehicle was not damaged, either.

The northbound vehicle that was hit by the passing driver careened into the southbound lane and came to a rest at about 20 yards past the point of impact.

The officer determined that field-sobriety tests would be unsafe for Gneuhs. The officer arrested him for suspicion of DUI and took him to the Baldwin police station, where the officer reported that Gneuhs failed a breath-analyzer test.

He was eventually taken home and released to the custody of his wife.
