Accident Leads to DUI Arrest on Grace Street

Baldwin Borough police officers went to the scene of a vehicular accident in front of Mm! Mm! Pizza on Grace Street in south Baldwin at around 10:21 p.m. on Halloween night.

One of the two motorists involved in the accident told police that the other motorist—Richard Joseph Rodgers, 53, of Balconade Drive in south Baldwin—might be intoxicated, according to a police report.

While speaking with Rodgers, a Baldwin police officer reported smelling alcohol coming from him. Rodgers also admitted to recently drinking alcohol, the officer reported.

Another officer put Rodgers through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and taking him to the Baldwin police station.

While at the station, Rodgers failed another breath-analyzer test. He was eventually released to the custody of his wife and is being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
