$3,300 in Gold Stolen in Whitehall

And other borough police notes from July 3-16.

Better Lock Up

On July 9 at around 1:25 p.m., management from the  area contacted police to report a burglary at an apartment at 1725 Skyline Dr.

The Skyline resident said that he was victimized sometime between 11 a.m. on July 2 and 1 p.m. on July 9 while he was away on a camping trip.

The victim told that all of his 14-karat gold necklaces—totaling $3,300 in value—were taken from his apartment, Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.

The victim used a key to re-enter his apartment on July 9, but he does not know if his door was actually locked.

Police officers found no signs of forced entry to the apartment and no leads on potential suspects.

They have notified local pawnshop owners and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Pawn Division to look out for gold necklaces matching the victim's description.

Better Lock Up, Part II

Whitehall police received a call from a Lawnview Drive resident at around 4:24 p.m. on July 10 claiming that items were stolen from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway overnight.

Stolen were five $1 bills, some loose change a BUCK knife valued at $25.

Danko said that another Lawnview resident at around that same time on July 10 informed his department that two vehicles parked in his driveway were also illegally entered into overnight. Both of those vehicles were also unlocked.

Stolen from one of the neighbor's vehicles were approximately $4 in loose change and two CDs. Nothing was taken from the other vehicle.

Danko reminded borough residents that incidents like these are avoidable.

"To avoid incidents like this, lock your cars," he said plainly.

Public Intoxication Near 7-Eleven

Whitehall police received a call from a motorist at around 1:24 a.m. on Sunday claiming that two people were fighting or arguing near the .

Police officers arrived at the scene a short time later and observed a woman there in a "highly intoxicated condition," Danko said. She was being "very argumentative" with the other person involved in the argument and with the officers.

The officers tried to calm the woman—Krystal Kotewicz, 27, of 1550 Radford in the Prospect Park area—and encourage her to return to her apartment, but she was not cooperative.

She was eventually arrested and charged with public intoxication.
