Baldwin-Whitehall 2012 Fish Fry Guide

What's your favorite: Saint Albert's, St. Gabe's, Option Fire or New Wine Harvest? Or did we miss one?

Here, fishy fishy. Yes, it's that time again. Even if you're not celebrating Lent, you can enjoy these great seafood meals from around Baldwin-Whitehall.

, off of Churchview Avenue in north , debuts its 2012 Fish Fry from 3 to 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22. The fry will then run every Friday through the Lenten season, which culminates on Easter Sunday, April 8. Good Friday, April 6, is the final day for the fry.

Saint Albert's has fried and baked Icelandic cod, including fried cod sandwiches, available for $6 each, or $9 each if ordered with a full dinner, which includes two of the following choices—French fries, potato pancakes, haluski, coleslaw, stewed tomatoes and macaroni with cheese. (Dinner is also served with a bread roll, butter and coffee.)

Diners can also order batches of breaded shrimp, Maryland crab cakes or pierogies for $6 each (or $9 with a full dinner).

On the a la carte menu are New England clam chowder ($2), five-inch cheese pizzas ($2), French fries ($2), macaroni with cheese ($2), coleslaw ($2), haluski ($2), potato pancakes ($2 each), Coca-Cola ($0.75), Diet Coca-Cola ($0.75), Sprite ($0.75), iced tea ($0.75), bottled water ($0.75) and beer ($2).

St. Gabriel's

, on Greenridge Drive near Baptist Road in , runs its 2012 Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. (takeout calls from 3 to 6 p.m.) on Fridays from Feb. 24 through March 30.

St. Gabriel's has fried cod and baked orange roughy sandwiches available for $6.75 each, or $8.50 each (without a sandwich bun) if ordered with a full dinner, which includes either a baked potato, French fries or three pierogies; either coleslaw or applesauce; and a piece of either chocolate or yellow cake. Dinner is also served with a bread roll, butter and either coffee or hot tea. (Substituting a sandwich bun for the bread roll and butter costs an additional $0.25.)

Diners can also order five pieces of shrimp for $6.75 (or $8.50 with a full dinner) or seafood cakes for $3.50 each (or a collection of them for $8.50 with a full dinner).

On the a la carte menu are cheese pizza slices ($1.75 each), French fries ($1.50), macaroni with cheese ($2), coleslaw ($1), haluski ($2), baked potatoes ($1.50 each), pierogies ($0.50 each or $5.50 per dozen), applesauce ($0.75), cookies ($0.25 each), cake pieces ($1 each), soft drinks ($0.50 each), bottled water ($1), iced tea ($1), orange drink ($0.30), coffee ($0.50) and hot tea ($0.50).

Orders are received at 412-881-0495. Coffee and hot tea are not available for takeout.

 

Option Fire Hall

, on Streets Run Road—one block from Route 51—in Baldwin Borough, will hold fish fries this year from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 22 and Feb. 24, March 9, March 23 and April 6.

Option Independent will serve fish sandwiches for $5 each, or $7 each if ordered with a full dinner, which includes two of the following choices—French fries, haluski, coleslaw and macaroni with cheese.

Diners can also order a shrimp dinner for $7, which also includes a choice of two sides.

On the a la carte menu are French fries ($1.50), haluski ($1.50), coleslaw ($1.50), macaroni with cheese ($1.50) and desserts ($0.75 each). Coffee and hot tea are offered free of charge, but other drinks go for $0.75 each.

The fire hall will host a 50-50 raffle during each of its fish fries. Also, orders for Easter flowers will be taken each day, and raffle tickets for a grand prize TV will be sold. The TV will be awarded at the conclusion of Option's April 6 fry.

 

New Wine Harvest Church/Café Fusion

, located at the former Willock Social Association site on East Willock Road in Baldwin Borough, runs Friday fish fries from March 9 through April 6.

The fries go from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 9, March 16, March 23 and March 30 and from noon to 7 p.m. on April 6.

Adult dinners at Café Fusion cost $8.50 each and include a 10-inch fillet on Cellone's bread with sides of French fries and coleslaw, as well as a soft drink.

Kids dinners cost $4 each and include a slice of cheese pizza, French fries, fruit and a juice box.

On the a la carte menu are haluski, soup of the day, desserts, espresso, latte and cappuccino.
