Boaz Fields Planning Committee Kickoff Meeting

Do you have a green thumb?  Does spending time with dirt under your nails and veggies in your hands make you happy?  Then this committee is for you!

For several years, SHIM has been trying to figure out the best way to provide fresh produce at the food pantry.  The families they serve are eager to receive fresh vegetables, but they have struggled to establish an efficient system of purchase and distribution.

They have decided, "if you can't buy it, grow it!"

Thanks to a "seed" grant from the United Methodist Foundation, SHIM-Center's Boaz Fields Community Garden is under way.  They've staked out the turf and this past fall they prepped the soil with help from the Penn State Cooperative Extension.  This year, they are ready to grow stuff, and that's where you come in!

They are looking for a team of volunteers willing to help coordinate the gardening efforts.  What should they plant? When do they need to plant it?  What the heck is that bug I just saw and how do I make it go away?
If you'd like to find out more about the project, please attend this kickoff meeting.
