The Baldwin-Whitehall Council of PTA is currently seeking volunteers to help on the Preschoolers Vision Screening program. Training for volunteers will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Baldwin High School in room 322 at 9:00 a.m. Please call Sandy @ 412-881-4234 to volunteer!
Did you know???
•1 of every 20 children has an undetected vision problem.
•Amblyopia (lazy eye) affects 1 in 50 children. With early detection and treatment by age 3, a child can expect a 95% correction rate. However, if left untreated until age 7, the correction rate drops to a mere 5%.
•Color deficiency affects 4 of every 50 boys.
Timely treatment for vision problems can prevent lifelong visual impairment.
Baldwin-Whitehall Council of PTA sponsors vision screening for preschools located in Baldwin and Whitehall, as well as at Kindergarten registrations at Paynter and McAnnulty Elementary Schools.

Free training is provided by Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh in conjunction with the PTA Council. Vision screenings take place throughout the months of February through April. Screening sites include: St. Gabriel’s, St. Elizabeth’s, First Impressions, Little Hearts and Good Shepherd preschools.
