Sunny Days? Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

The National Weather Service in Moon Township said that if the rapture doesn't happen, expect thunderstorms instead.

Meteorologist Lee Hendricks said that if you have kids in Little League baseball, good luck.

Rainy, soggy, depressing weather is expected to persist through next week—if, of course, the world doesn’t end on Saturday.

“I just hope I can get the admin approval to leave if the rapture occurs halfway through my shift,” Hendricks said with a laugh.

But seriously, if you want to soak up some sun, the  said to clear your schedule Saturday, because that might be the only chance you get.

Temperatures are expected to soar to about 77 degrees on Saturday with lows dipping into the 50s.

After that, Hendricks said that the forecast goes sour, with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms Sunday and for the rest of the coming week.

He said that a weather pattern that he likened to “a flip-flop of El Niño” has caused a delay in the onslaught of spring and confirmed that summer will be late arriving because of it, too.

Since Jan. 1, Washington County has seen a whopping 20.4 inches of rainfall, which is about 5 inches more than last year. Allegheny County isn’t fairing any better, he added. It has seen more than 8 inches of rainfall over last year.

So, when does Hendricks expect warm, sunny weather?

“I keep sticking with the June 1 number,” he said. “I’m just not telling you what year.”
