Snow Storm Expected to Hit Area on Jan. 21

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory starting at 4 p.m. The Pittsburgh area should expect three to five inches of snow by tomorrow.

Here we go again.

Get the shovels out and keep the ice scrapers handy. The  in Moon Township said as much as five inches of snow is coming to the Pittsburgh area today, and a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. through 6 a.m. Friday.

“The snow should start around 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. [today],” meteorologist Zaaron Allen said. “It will start snowing steady by the time the kiddies come home from school.”

Allen said he expects the heaviest snow to fall right after rush hour and then again from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Bottom line: When the Baldwin-Whitehall community wakes up on Friday, there could be three to five inches of the white stuff.

But Allen added that it doesn’t end there. Snow showers will persist through the day Friday, and by sundown, there could be between one and two more inches of snow on the ground.

That’s when the winds are going to pick up, he said, adding that people should expect gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

Allen said that while there could be some scattered snow showers this weekend, the temperature will nonetheless be very cold.

Temperatures could dip below zero degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday with gusting winds that will make it feel even a few degrees colder.

Allen said that when the Steelers take on the Jets on Sunday in the AFC championship game at Heinz Field, the temperature should warm up to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit with possible flurries but no snow showers.

“We’ll get the Jets to fumble the ball a couple times,” he said. “We’ll be fine.”
