Snow Expected Thursday; Freezing Rain Friday

The National Weather Service is calling for snow showers at around rush hour.

No need to scurry off to the grocery store to buy the obligatory milk, bread and toilet paper, as  meteorologist Lee Hendricks says that Thursday's snowfall in and around Pittsburgh shouldn't be a big deal.

With light snow this morning and a chance of about an inch more of it this afternoon, drivers should nonetheless exercise caution on the roads during rush hour—when the flakes should really begin flying.

Also on tap on Thursday? Wind gusts of up to 35 mph, Hendricks said.

Another inch of the white stuff is expected overnight when temperatures are expected to hover in the teens.

As for Friday, things might get a little ugly.

Snow is expected to turn to sleet come sunset on Friday, and Hendricks said that that will likely spur the National Weather Service to issue a warning.

"We will probably have a winter weather advisory," he said, adding that meteorologists are working to determine the timing of the freezing rain.

While we will get a respite on Saturday from uber-cold temperatures, precipitation will continue in the form of rain, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s.
