EXTENDED: Streets Run Road Drainage Work

The work will run from Delwar Road to the Glenwood Interchange area.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions for drainage improvements across a large part of Streets Run Road.

The work, which will run from Delwar Road in West Mifflin Borough to the Glenwood Interchange area on the border of north Baldwin Borough and Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, will last from Jan. 28 to Feb. 15, at the least. That is an approximately 2-mile stretch. (UPDATE: Work extended to Feb. 19-22.)

Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the work area.

When renovating a road the surface is only part of the work. Before Streets Run Road was resurfaced there was nowhere near as much water runoff on the road surface. The new paving should have had proper grading and drainage. The center of the road should have had a 4" crown, the berm/gutter should have been sloped approx. 2 1/2 " down from the edge of road surface to the bottom of the 1'-0" X 6" wedge curb. The gutter should have been graded so water would flow to the existing inlets. Inlets should have been added if needed. This would have eliminated most of the water runoff. Now more money can be spent rectifying a mess.
