Rain Turning to Snow on Wednesday

An inch or two could accumulate on grassy areas during the evening rush hour.

That biting rain falling this morning will likely turn into snow later this afternoon, and the amount of accumulation likely will depend on which side of Pittsburgh that you’re located.

Dan Krzywiecki, the chief meteorologist for , said that the rain will gradually change over into a snowy mix before turning into all snow at around rush hour. However, with warmer than usual temperatures this week, Krzywiecki expected the only accumulation to be on grassy areas.

“The ground temps are well above freezing,” he said, “but as the air temperatures cool and approach freezing—that will be some time later this evening—there could be some slippery spots. Plus, any water on the roads after the event could turn to ice.”

Krzywiecki expects southern Allegheny County and northern Washington County to receive an inch of snow on grassy areas. “Two inches is possible,” he said.

North of Pittsburgh, near Butler County, should receive no more than an inch of accumulation, he said.
