North Baldwin Roadwork Update

Churchview Avenue and Willett Road are the topics.

Preparation work for a milling and paving project on Churchview Avenue in was expected to be completed on Wednesday.

“(Crews) are looking to start paving tomorrow,” borough Manager John Barrett said that day.

The Churchview project runs from the Glass Run Road intersection to just before Mary Ann Drive.

“In addition to milling and paving,” Barrett said, “we have installed underdrain along Churchview where there were storm sewers that we could tie into.”

Barrett said that the road should be done being paved by the end of next week.

The Churchview work is being performed by El Grande Industries for approximately $380,000, according to Barrett.

“We were pleased with (El Grande’s) bid,” Barrett said. “Our engineered estimates were $500,000 for the roadwork.

“With the bids coming in low, and since we were able to bid the work early, (Baldwin Borough) Council issued a second paving contract this year. We will also pave a section of Willett (Road) this season, likely (to) start in August.”

No major travel detours have been announced for either project, but intermittent single-lane closures should be expected.

During Churchview’s preparation, a flagman could be seen sporadically altering the flow of traffic on that road, but delays were minimal.
