FORECAST: Winter Storm in Baldwin-Whitehall

The National Weather Service's winter storm warning for the Pittsburgh area remains in effect through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, but initial forecasts seem to have overestimated the amount of snow for the region.

Nevertheless, many schools in and near the Baldwin-Whitehall area delayed the start of classes on Wednesday or canceled classes altogether.

Here's a look at, roughly, the Baldwin-Whitehall forecast through Thursday morning from the National Weather Service:

• Wednesday—Snow, mainly before 1 p.m. High near 37. Northeast wind of 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is possible.
• Wednesday Night—A slight chance of snow showers before 7 p.m., then scattered flurries after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. North wind of around 10 mph.
• Thursday—Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph.

This forecast, of course, is subject to change.
