Flag Retirement in South Park This Thursday

Rich Fitzgerald and members of the Allegheny County Council will help to properly burn U.S. flags.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and members of the Allegheny County Council will host a sixth annual U.S. flag retirement ceremony at the "By the Dawn's Early Light" Flag Retirement Plaza in South Park on Thursday night at 7.

Flags that have become worn and unusable while flying in service to the United States will be properly retired in the plaza's burn pit.

Among the groups participating in the ceremony will be the West Mifflin Area High School Air Force JROTC, United States Colored Troops Youth Re-enactment Drum Corps6th Regiment United States Colored Troops and local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and American Legion members.

Last year at the flag burning they accepted flags right before they started from the people in the neighborhood that had worn and ripped flags.

Looks like they need to next work on making the "flag as inappropriate" button work, {sigh} Hey, Margaret, Patch knocked computer off IE AGAIN in the middle of posting this, it's not just you---probably quite a few of us. I know of another website that had similar problems, but finally got it fixed. Hang in there! :-)
