Broughton-Baptist Work Resumes April 1

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0's $3.9-million roadwork project at the Broughton Road-Baptist Road intersection in Bethel Park resumes on April 1, weather permitting.

But there will be fewer restrictions than there were this past spring.

The following restrictions will be in place beginning at approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, April 1, and lasting through mid-October:

• Eastbound Broughton will be closed between Paxton and Sansue drives (same as this past spring), but westbound Broughton will remain open in a single lane from Sansue to Paxton.
  o   Posted Detour: Take Route 88 (Library Road) northeast to Route 51. Then, take Route 51 southeast to Brownsville Road before taking Brownsville south to the Broughton-Curry Hollow Road intersection.

• Unlike a previous restriction at this intersection, all of Baptist will remain open.

The project is creating mobility improvements at this busy intersection, which sees about 28,000 vehicles on an average day, according to PennDOT.

Work includes reconstructing and widening the intersection to add turning lanes, improved drainage, retaining walls, new traffic signals, curbing and bituminous resurfacing. The prime contractor is Plum Contracting, Inc., of Greensburg.

Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays and changing traffic patterns when traveling through this area.
