Broughton, Baptist Road Work Begins Monday

Some traffic changes and detours will be in effect.

It starts on April Fool's Day, but it's not a joke—work on the Broughton/Baptist intersection in Bethel Park begins Monday, and there are other traffic changes to be aware of in the area.

Work to improve safety and reduce congestion at the intersection of Broughton and Baptist roads will resume Monday, April 1, weather permitting, according to PennDOT.

The following restrictions also will be in effect as of 7 a.m. on April 1, through mid-October:

  • Eastbound Broughton Road will be closed between Paxton Drive and Sansue Drive. Posted Detour: Route 88 (Library Road) north to Route 51; east to Brownsville Road; south back to Broughton/Curry Hollow Road.
  • Westbound Broughton Road will remain open between Paxton Drive and Sansue Drive with traffic restricted to a single lane. Baptist Road will remain open at this time.

Work at the intersection includes reconstructing and widening the intersection to add turning lanes, improved drainage, retaining walls, new traffic signals, curbing and bituminous resurfacing. Overall work will conclude in fall 2013. About 28,000 vehicles use the intersection each day.
