Becks Run Eastbound Closure Extended into November

Inclement weather to blame, PA American Water Company explains.

UPDATE:

The Pennsylvania American Water Company has announced that eastbound traffic on Becks Run Road in north will continue to be prohibited between East Carson and Wagner streets until early November. The closure was originally expected to be lifted by Sept. 30.

Pennsylvania American Water explained in a press release that the extended closure is a result of inclement weather that affected the project’s restoration timeline, as crews now need additional time to ensure proper restoration of property and repaving of the road.

The project’s ultimate goal is to excavate across Becks Run for the installation of approximately 2,900 feet of new, 42-inch water main as part of PA American Water’s Becks Run Pumping Station and Hays Mine Treatment Plant improvement projects.

The approximately $101-million project will improve water-treatment processes and ensure that the company’s drinking water continues to comply with all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards.

Traffic is limited on Becks Run to the outbound (westbound) direction only between East Carson and Wagner until restoration is completed. All inbound (eastbound) traffic on Becks Run will continue to be detoured onto Wagner until the project is completed.

“While we understand the frustration of residents and motorists,” PA American Project Manager Jay Lucas said in a statement, “the extended closure is necessary to ensure the safety of our workers, residents and motorists within the project corridor.”

Motorists are being asked to find alternative routes and to avoid the closure area. Signs are posted to guide motorists using detours.
