Life in the Fast Lane

Baldwin's cross country teams are successful in the Commonwealth ... of Virginia.

The Fighting Highlanders cross country squads made an annual trip to Richmond, VA, on Sept. 29 to participate in the Maymont Cross Country Festival. A total of 322 teams representing 98 schools from nine states and the District of Columbia registered over 2,900 runners in several varsity and junior varsity divisions.

The Baldwin girls varsity squad placed second in its division with an impressive four runners finishing in the top 15 of the race.

The Baldwin boys varsity team also finished second in its division by placing two runners in the top 15 and all five of its scorers in the top 30.

The junior varsity boys placed third and had three runners in the top 15.

In addition to the individual team members receiving medals, the top 15 in each race were awarded medals, as well, accounting for a great deal of hardware heading back to Pennsylvania on the teams' bus.

Congratulations to coaches Rich Wright and Bunny Schmidt on another successful trip.

The boys varsity squad also had a second-place finish at the Uniontown Invitational this season and were champions of the Gateway Invitational.

Today, Oct. 9, Baldwin has a very important section dual meet at home versus Mt. Lebanon and South Park. That will be followed by Thursday's Mingo Classic.
