Nearby: Whole Foods Market Coming to South Hills

The store is slated to open in the fall of 2015 at the site of the former CONSOL Energy headquarters.

Whole Foods Market is coming to Pittsburgh's South Hills area.

The grocery store, which emphasizes natural and organic products, is planned to open in the fall of 2015 at the corner of Route 19 and Fort Couch Road in Upper St. Clair Township—the site of the former CONSOL Energy headquarters.

"We are proud to seek and develop in areas that share a strong commitment and passion for quality natural and organic foods," Whole Foods Market Mid-Atlantic Region President Scott Allshouse said in a news release. "Opening in (the) South Hills is an excellent opportunity for us to plant solid roots (and) encourage economic growth, job creation and community engagement. We are looking forward to joining the neighborhood and curating long-lasting relationships and partnerships in (the) South Hills and its surrounding areas."

The two-story office building on the site is currently being demolished. The new Whole Foods Market store will be 40,000-square-feet large and have 222 parking spots, according to the release.

Details of the new store are still coming together, but the store is part of a controversial mixed-use development that Upper St. Clair commissioners approved zoning for in October 2011.

Whole Foods will join three other grocery stores located off of Route 19 in or near Upper St. Clair: Giant Eagle Market District, Trader Joe's and The Fresh Market that is currently under construction.
