Leland Point Becomes The Residences of South Hills

The sprawling apartment complex in south Baldwin gets a new moniker as part of its makeover.

Since the powers that be at Apollo Property Management LLC took over the Leland Point Apartments complex , much has changed—room enhancements, renovations, a new clubhouse,  and more—but until recently, one thing had remained the same.

But Leland Point now has a new name, as well.

The approximately 1,100-unit complex in south  is now called , and the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch was there on Friday to take pictures of some new signage, as well as a new clubhouse area that was .

I, too, drive through there just about every day. They have hard working people trying to keep the grounds clean. I also see the Bottom Dollar carts there. Dispicable. That is theft taking those off the property. Agreed when it was Baldwin Courts it was the place for a lot of young newlyweds to live. NOT NOW. And no, these are not comments about a particular race who occupy these. There are people of every color. It is the type of person who lives there. I do not believe there are very little Section 8 there. I just don't. They can change the name to whatever they want but anyone who lives near there knows what is there. Just curious ... if they are not Section 8 and do not work, how do they pay the rent, buy the food, pay the utilities, drive the cars, have the fancy cell phones? Catholic Charities?
cc June 11, 2012 at 07:28 PM
BT they can only get rid of Section 8 as leases come up and they are working on it. In a few months they will have them out of there. I did hear that they were going to leave Senior Citizens and Disabled People on Section 8 there as a good jester because it is hard for them to find decent apartments and move. I've seen shopping carts from Bottom Dollar down on McAnnulty Road and called the store to report where they were located at. People should have respect and if they take a grocery cart away from a store then they should return then to the store if they have to much to carry. Hopefully they will get the ones that did the car jacking on Macassar Drive as they have camera's all over the neighborhood.
SHResident June 11, 2012 at 07:29 PM
Great advertisement for them, isn't it? I hate driving through there once the sun goes down, honestly. There are things that go on in that complex that we don't even hear about. Wonder why.
SHResident June 11, 2012 at 07:30 PM
They should have renamed it "Un" United Nations.
cc June 11, 2012 at 07:31 PM
Why are they down on McAnnulty Road. Call the store and let them know, so they can go get them and then they won't have to raise the prices of food.
cc June 11, 2012 at 07:52 PM
So BT the 1% they plan on keeping is going to be Senior Citizens and Disabled People. They are probably the ones taken the shopping carts from Bottom Dollar too and leaving them all over the neighborhood. Car jacking happen all over in Allegheny County. It is a shame that these people that did the car jacking didn't have parents that taught them right from wrong.
Bald win win win June 11, 2012 at 09:36 PM
Do the carts the ALDI way, kids would return the carts to get the quarters back. We who are taking the short cut through there all are doing so in a car. I think not everyone can afford a car, have some compassion for people who are not as fortunate as we are. Those creeps who stole the car probably don't even live there, they probably were visiting someone and thought they would take the easy way home. Hope they catch them!

It would be nice for once, if someone bought the place, and built new homes on that land, That could be a nice place to live. Those apartments need to go. It was a nice place a long time ago as many have said, but changing the name does nothing for the place. Buy the property and build new homes and a section of townhomes, no renting at all
Jean Smith June 11, 2012 at 11:33 PM
BT the armed car robbery was were the homes were and not the apartments. We also have people in Baldwin Township that kick cats into swimming pools and kill them with no remorse.
Jean Smith June 11, 2012 at 11:35 PM
I love the way Aldi's does carts. I don't find them pushed into my car cause people can't put them in the cart racks or take them back up in front of the store.
Jean Smith June 11, 2012 at 11:45 PM
I had to laugh driving though there today on my way to Bottom Dollar, I did not see one grocery cart upside down or anywhere on the main drag. NB have you seen how much money has been put in that place. Two years ago, sitting down in Leland watching the kids play baseball it was an eye sore to look at; with all the building with broken windows, boarded up. Now you can see curtains on the windows, people living in the buildings with lights on. Since they aren't taking section 8 they are getting people who are working and moving up there. I hope they do well and get young people back in the neighborhood who might buy homes in Baldwin/Whitehall later on.

As the management company, we are very concerned about providing a quality living environment for all of our residents. Background and credit checks have greatly stabilized the community and it continues to improve. Our collaboration with the Baldwin Police has proved to be beneficial for our residents and neighbors, and we will continue to work with them and Baldwin Borough officials to ensure an enjoyable living experience for our loyal residents. - Apollo Property Management

Sionann Monroe, The place is looking so much better since it has been taken over by new management.
gema karpol June 15, 2012 at 01:28 PM
There is so much rift raft up there, how do these people pass criminal and credit checks. I am sure they cannot afford the rent. The napal's are taking over. They have like 20 people living in one apartment
jim smith June 25, 2012 at 11:31 PM
A disgrace to Baldwin. Amazing how people living there can be driving high end cars when the place is all section 8 housing. I guess they can afford them when the taxpayers pay for their rents.
JustMe June 26, 2012 at 03:11 AM
Gema Karpol, have you reported to management that 20 people are living in one apartment? Each adult has to be on the lease and really don't think they would allow 20 peoples names on 1 lease even in a 3 bedroom apartment. For a family of 5 you need a 3 bedroom apartment.
bd June 26, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Jim Smith - you are wrong. This place is no longer "all section 8 housing." Apollo Management does not take section 8 applicants. I live near this complex and I see the improvements they are making.
JustMe June 26, 2012 at 01:31 PM
Jim Smith - Over the last 9 months they have been moving Section 8 out of The Residency of South Hills and every month you see more and more people moving out of there as they don't ACCEPT Section 8 any more. There are also people moving into the apartments that they have done over. Could these people own the high end cars that you see up there? The Residency of South Hills is going to keep Senior Citizens and Disable people who are on Section 8 and they said it would be less than 1%.. I can't see either of these groups of people owning high end cars as you see a lot of ACCESS buses, cabs picking them up to take them to appointments. I have to say that i'm impressed with all the work they have done up here and see it turning back into Baldwin Courts of the 70's and 80's. I am glad they are keeping Section 8 for elderly and disabled people, most of them live on under 800 a month and they would be out on the street if they discontinued taking Section 8 from them. Thank you Apollo for the fine work your doing up here.
bd June 26, 2012 at 02:03 PM
Just Me - You are spot on. I think Jim Smith needs to take a ride into Whitehall Place, formerly known as Prospect Park, which is in Whitehall. That is the true eyesore of the area. Yet, very little is said about that place and the Whitehall borough leaders and the Whitehall police keep people in the dark about this joint.
gema karpol June 26, 2012 at 05:08 PM
Just because your name is not on the lease, doesn't mean you can't live in the apartment. Do they check to see how many people are living in an apartment? They sign up for the lease, then they move in the rest of their family. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. I am pretty sure from word of mouth, that there are more than 5 people living in a three bedroom. Believe me, I want nothing more than to see a turn around up there. Again, I don't believe that everyone living in that complex has passed a credit or criminal report.
Jean Smith June 26, 2012 at 06:57 PM
BD, Whitehall Place quit taking section 8 a few years back but not sure about Skytop Village that is also a rental company up there. A friend and her husband have been living up there for 15 years and they are gutting the apartment building next to her townhome. Most of her neighbors now are nice people that speak English. It was bad for years up there but they are making improvements I don't know about Skytop Village that also rents up there but seen in a few post that the only two places now in Baldwin/Whitehall that take Section 8 are down somewhere off Churchview.
Jean Smith June 26, 2012 at 07:13 PM
Gema, then have you reported these people to Apollo to let them know that this is happening, i'm sure they would love to get people out of there a lot sooner than when their leases are up. A lot of word of mouth is false information that is passed around. Unless you have positive facts then it is gossip.

Don't cut through I live here and post above you are ranting about have truth to them. Are you are resident Tyrion? When I first moved in the place looked really nice, stairwells and hallways. Now when I walk through it's dirty and trash on the floors.

All these pictures are a joke! Maybe some look nice like that. I moved from out of state to this place. Let me tell you I was looking forward to it because all of the pictures. Well I was disapointed once I got here! There was graffiti all over the place, dirty laundry laying around, water damage all around the walls and plenty of kicked in holes aswell! It was awful. Not to mention the other tenants that reside at this dump. I was there for maybe 10 minutes and wanted to run away screaming. Management is just as bad as the place, desprated to get people to live and stay there no matter what it takes, even if it means lying. I can't even count the many lies I was told by them. I am a very nice person and it takes alot for me to get angry and discusted with people but, they got me there. I did not stay there and found a safer place for my family. Please people Save your time and mony, do not even consider this apartment.
cc October 05, 2012 at 03:39 PM
Ashley this is your opinion of the place. Others are saying different
Ashley October 14, 2012 at 02:27 PM
Oh I have pictures. If ANYONE considering this place wants to see what it really looks like just tell me your e-mail... So cc its not just my "opinion" I actaully have proof.

I currently live here and I will tell you it is not at all how they made it seem! Moved in, in April was told the gym and resident community room were to open in may! A major plus as to why we moved in, it however did not open until I believe the end of August/ beginning of September? Plus the hours are normal business hours, that doesn't accommodate everyone that pays over $800/rent a month. We were also told that the stair well leading to our apartment (including carpet/walls/etc) would all be redone upon moving in (has yet to be done!!!) The office staff also does not seem consistent and I see new faces each and everytime I am there! The person that gave us the tour also spoke so highly of the area and told us she lived there---she infact was only and intern and travels to different rental properties to do the same type of job!

Move to florida and pay 1200 and more and encounter the same behaviors. I can't believe that I also bitched about this and that. So called upscale areas down here are pretty much the same. People are so lazy leaving grocery carts everywhere and driving high end cars. I moved there when it was G reen meadows and broke my lease because of section 8 residents. I moved freaken miles away to upscale and experience the same behaviors. Please help change the situation and appreciate your lot in lifebecause people are people.

Please take it from some one who made the MISTAKE of moving to this place! I pay close to $1,000 a month to live in a townhouse on the property and every day I get more frustrated living there. It feel like I am paying more then fair price to live in what feels like the projects. I was not familiar with the area when I did move in and my husband and I felt it appeared nice and the lady we spoke to assured us that they were no longer accepting Section 8 (not that I have a problem with it, I just feel that in MOST cases it is abused and the abusers end up living in homes that are equally or nicer then the ones I work hard to pay for, and in most cases those abusers are nothing but trouble!) which turned out to be more then false. I'm beyond stressed out over feeling tricked into paying almost $1,000 a month to live in this place. We were hoping to move in and stay for at least 2-3 years while we save to buy our own house, but now we have rushed our process and are looking for new residence. Not only in a year do we yet again have to up root our life and now put a rush into buying a home but we also have to up root our sons life, and be the type of parents who's kid spends one year in one school and then leaves, which is a whole other issue with my child being emotional about having to leave! This place is a trick! They clean up the out side and then they rope you in! I would never recommend any hard working person to live here, because honestly all you do is pay more then you need to in order to compensate for the people who are either not paying rent or has our taxes pay it for them!
