Giant Eagle to End foodperks! Program

The last day to earn the perks will be Feb. 13.

Giant Eagle's popular foodperks! program will end on May 31, according to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but the last day to earn the perks will be much sooner—Feb. 13.

The supermarket/gas station chain's fuelperks! program, however, will continue, the P-G reports. In fact, starting on Thursday, it will be supplemented by a 3-cent discount on gasoline for Advantage Card holders on the occasions when they don't use fuelperks!

Giant Eagle CEO Laura Karet said that the foodperks! program had become "a little too complex."

"Giant Eagle CEO Laura Karet said that the foodperks! program had become "a little too complex." Or they cant get as much of our money from that program, so end it, Giant Eagle is too expensive anyway for food perks or fuel perks

yeah but i would rather shop there than shop n save or bottom dollar or aldi...they have no selection there!!

jonet, that is true---depending on location. For me, its GE because the other choices nearby are not appealing at all; but when in other parts of town I have found some nice S&S stores. I do use the fuelperks and am glad that is not changing. Saves me about $10 or more per fill up. I can trim corners on the food buying with coupons, sale items, in season only, etc, but when you need to fill the tank with gas, you just do. :-) Of course the buying/shopping/driving habits of others will differ, isn't it great that we have choices!

... and thanks, Patch, for the heads up, I'll be sure to use that bit of discount on my next trip to GE---before 2/13!

I got married in September and the had never really done my own grocery shopping before that so since GE was a skip away, I went there. The next week I ventured to S&S and saved $80 more than I did at GE. Now my shopping consists of BD first and what I cant get there (which is usually not too much because I buy the majority there) I get from S&S. I also get my meat there. my grocery bill for the week has never been more than $120. I spent $150 my first time going to GE. Never again. I use S&S fuelperks and it saves me money that way too and that builds up faster.

NB, I agree. I would rather shop at S&S. Unfortunately the two stores that are closest to me are both GE. The bakery at GE costs way too much for stuff and it isn't as good as S&S. (birthday cake being the only exception) I think I used my fuel perks one time in all these years. I usually give my card to one of my children to so they can get their gas. I just used my $5.41 food perks but I would of saved more than that if I had shopped at S&S.

I also shop at a variety of stores...I am lucky have a BD, GE, S&S, and Aldi's within a couple miles of my home. I just read the ads and shop at each one for their specials! I am disappointed about the foodperks ending, though. We put in the gas and my mother-in-law (who doesn't drive) uses the foodperks.

Give the article another read, NE. You have until May 31 to use perks.

right you are, Bob. Thanks for the correction.

Don't mention it.

NB resident, I agree there they are way to over priced on everything. Shop N Save in Bethel Park is a better store to go to and way cheaper than the Eagle

Driving out to Bethel Park to go to Shop N Save is so much better than going to the one in Baldwin and the one at Century Square. Better selection of meat out in Bethel Park and they have an awesome 2 day sale once a month that the other 2 Shop N Saves never have. Fuel Perks are better as they don't make you wait till you got $50 to get 10 cents off of gas. Then again I will leave the Baldwin/Whitehall area to go shopping but some complain about wasting gas if they have to leave the area.
