SCHEDULE/PREVIEW: 2013 Saint Sylvester Fair (Brentwood)

The Brownsville Road church/school will run its annual fair from Aug. 19-24, but an Aug. 18 spaghetti dinner and pre-sale flea market will kick off the event.

The Saint Sylvester Parish along Brownsville Road in Brentwood Borough welcomes residents from Pittsburgh's South Hills area for its annual fair, running from Aug. 19-24 this year.

The fair operates out of the church/school's parking lot and will run from 7 to 11 nightly from Monday, Aug. 19, to Saturday, Aug. 24. But, a spaghetti dinner and pre-sale flea market will kick off the event from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.

The dinner and flea market will be held in the church hall, which serves as the school cafeteria.

Local bands will entertain fair-goers on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, and Reinhart Amusements will supply, nightly, rides like a ferris wheel, airplanes, a merry-go-'round and tubs ("cups").

Also nightly, booths holding a money wheel, fish bowl game, various kids games and cold-hand poker will be at the fair. And food and drinks will be offered in the form of nightly specials.

An airbrush tattoos tent will go up for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, and on Friday, the Mary Ellen Shade dancers, as well as DJ Dave, will perform. Mary Ellen Shade starts at 6:45, followed by DJ Dave through 11.
