Baldwin High School Garners Two Gene Kelly Nominations

The high school's spring production of "Children of Eden" impresses area judges.

The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's 21st Annual Gene Kelly Awards show will be held at The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m., and will have two chances to walk away from that event with honors.

Baldwin's spring 2011 musical presentation of has been recognized by judges as one of three finalists in the Budget Category III-Lighting Design section along with 's presentation of "Les Misérables" and Woodland Hills High School's "The Phantom of the Opera."

To boot, Baldwin's Maggie Brooks, who played "Mama Noah" in "Children of Eden," has been recognized as one of six finalists in the overall Best Actress section.

By being in that group of six nominees, Brooks is also in the running to be recognized at The National High School Musical Theater Awards show in New York City on Monday, June 27.
