Back to Back: Baldwin H.S. Wins Another Kelly Award for Best Musical

The high school's production of 'Hairspray' impressed judges.

Baldwin High School took home top honors at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's 23rd Annual Gene Kelly Awards at The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday night. The Best Musical (Budget III) title is Baldwin's second in as many years. Baldwin won for "Curtains" in 2012. The Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater were launched as a means to recognize and encourage student achievement and to focus the attention of the community and school districts on the importance of musical theater and arts education. Patterned after the American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards, the Gene Kelly Awards celebrate the power of the arts to significantly improve all areas of education.
