Weekly Tips from a Patch.com Mom

Friday night Homecoming and shopping bargains this weekend.

Hello, moms!

There seems to be a little chill in the air these days, but that's okay. If anything, that signals the start of a whole new season. And I don’t just mean that fall is coming; I mean football season!

And, you know, I'm not just talking about the Steelers. I mean the Baldwin Fighting Highlanders!

officials are calling for all Baldwin-Whitehall residents to come out to Baldwin High Stadium for the varsity football game this Friday night, Sept. 23. It's a “Whiteout”!

Come out and show your Highlander pride, moms. For those of you not familiar with a “whiteout,” it means to lose the color in your clothes. In other words: Wear white!

Baldwin is playing local rival Thomas Jefferson High School this Friday at 7:30 p.m. as part of Baldwin's Homecoming festivities. T.J. was the nemesis of Baldwin-Whitehall when I went to school, and as far as I'm concerned, they still are!

Our team is looking great this year, and the boys would love to have all of Baldwin-Whitehall at the game to cheer them on.

This is a great way to spend a Friday night out with the hubby and some friends at our local high school. Perhaps it's even your alma mater.

And tickets are priced so low that you won't need to break the bank for a fun night out. Reserved tickets are $6 each per game, and general admission is only $5. Students can purchase tickets for $2 at their school or $5 at the gate.

So let’s go, kids, and cheer on the next generation of “Highlander Pride”! But tell Dad to leave the air horn at home; those tend to be frowned upon!

All right moms, now that we let Dad get his fill of football, it's time to go shopping!

There are two great opportunities to do a little bargain-hunting in Baldwin-Whitehall this weekend. The first is the Ultimate Church Yard Sale & Lunch Counter at  on Baptist Road. This event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Wesley Hall, Asbury Hall and the church circle. The United Methodist Women are hosting the event, so grab your girlfriends and go find some great bargains. You can also grab lunch there, as the women will be serving up homemade barbecued ham, potato salad, baked beans and a variety of desserts. The church will even be open for coffee, donuts and muffins at 8 a.m.

The  is hosting a event, also on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. That event will be held in the Community Room of the . There are sure to be a lot of great deals to be had there, as well!

While you're at the library, don't forget to go check out a new book or a for your next “momscape” time.

So, come on moms, let’s go cheer on our local team on Friday night! I want to see some “Fighting Highlander” spirit out there! We don’t make our whites the whitest that we can for nothing. This time, you get to display them proudly!

And I know that you moms put a lot of spirit into bargain shopping, too. So enjoy it! Send me some pictures of your pride and your bargains! I love to see moms enjoying a little “momscape” time in Baldwin-Whitehall.

Thanks again for reading, and have a great week!
