Weekly Tips from a Patch.com Mom

Fall Fest at Caste Village, Baby Boomers Boogie Night at Getaway Cafe, Whitehall Library book sale and Saint Elizabeth's flea market.

Hello, moms!

Did you get out to that great game on Friday? I was sick and missed the against Thomas Jefferson. I was there in spirit, though! It looks like it could be a great football season this year for the Highlanders, so you won't want to miss a game!

This week in Baldwin-Whitehall, there is a lot going on to get you out and about for some time with the hubby and friends! I know that I could use some time out of the house this week, so let's go!

This Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, is having a at . This is a community celebration with nightly entertainment from 7 to 9 p.m. The entire event runs from 6 to 11 p.m.

Thursday features DJ Steve Maffei Jr., and if you haven't heard of DJ Steve yet, just ask your kids to tell you about 'im! DJ Steve has done many Baldwin-Whitehall events, and he is sure to get the whole crowd up and moving to the beat!

Friday features The Stickers, a great country band from the area that includes teacher Jim Wodarek as its drummer. The Stickers are made up of three brothers and one of their childhood friends. They have opened for some really big country bands over the years, so you will not want to miss these guys!

But wait, there's more! "Fall Fest" welcomes the band Bon-Journey to the stage on Saturday night. Bon-Journey, another great local band, plays music in tribute to Bon Jovi and Journey.

So pick a night, moms, and get out with the hubby to enjoy "Fall Fest"! The event also boasts rides, games, prizes and great food every night. Get a sitter, forget cooking dinner and go out and have some fun! It's right here in our own backyard!

If you're into a different groove, you can head over to the  in on Saturday night at 8 p.m. for , featuring music from the 1950s, '60s and '70s.

Reservations are a must for this one, so make sure to call your friends now to set the date. And don't forget about . After all of that dancing, you'll need to refuel with some of Lou the owner's yummy delights!

Here is one that I am not going to miss: The  is having a "Blow Out Book Sale" this week.

Time to pick up some great books for that "time away from it all." Stock up now, moms, before the winter blues hit and you need a good book to take you far away to some nice, warm, secluded island in paradise.

The "Blow Out Book Sale" runs from Thursday through Sunday. See the Whitehall Library website for all of the varied hours and specials.

The sale is not just for books. DVDs, CDs and much more will also be available. But there will still be lots of great books for children and teens to pick from. Don't forget: Christmas is only three months away. There could be some great stocking stuffers there for the kids!

And let's not forget some time away from it all to bargain shop for some fall clothes or maybe some cute new decorations for around the house.

along Route 51 is holding its annual Fall Flea Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Saint E's gymnasium. There will be free parking and admission for the event, and the parish will offer games and refreshments throughout the day.

Be sure to grab some time for yourself this weekend, moms, and go bargain shopping!

So there you have it! No excuses. Go grab some time for yourself this week, because there is plenty to do again in Baldwin-Whitehall!

The kids will still be there when you get back waiting to tell you how hungry and how sick of homework that they still are, or how their little sister put peanut butter in the XBox and broke it!

Go grab some sanity, and I will see you there!

Thanks for reading. Enjoy your week.
