Transportation Survey a Step to Regain Public Transit in B-W Area

Whitehall Councilwoman Linda Book hopes residents living in and outside of Whitehall will take a transportation survey—attached here—to help regain better public transit through the area.

A Whitehall Borough councilwoman wants to make public transportation better for residents living within the borough—and for those living outside its borders.

Councilwoman Linda Book created a transportation survey to gauge how residents in Whitehall and surrounding communities use public transportation, and how they’ve been affected by recent cuts and changes to bus routes.

The survey is attached to this article as a PDF document.

“I hope to collect data that can be helpful to potential transportation companies interested in providing services … if the Port Authority does not see fit to reinstate needed Whitehall bus routes once I provide data to them,” Book said in an email to Baldwin-Whitehall Patch.

Book said she realizes that transit cuts were due to lack of funding, but that when the 51C bus service was cut from Whitehall, she became concerned. The 51C used to run from Brownsville Road down Baptist Road to Caste Village, making it possible for people to get to work, grocery stores and doctor appointments.

All area residents—including those who live in Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township, and other surrounding communities—are welcome to take the survey attached to this article.

“Even if they don’t live in Whitehall, want this to go out to everyone who would be using a bus route through Whitehall,” Book said. “They can get the benefit of whatever might come of this. We want their feedback, also.”

All 6,600 Whitehall Borough households also will receive a paper copy of the survey in the Whitehall Borough Spring 2013 Bulletin, which will be mailed at the end of April.
