This Week's Weather: Starting Midweek, Highs in the 50s

Forecasters say expect to see highs near 57 degrees Wednesday through Saturday, about 15 degrees above average for January.

Now that it's January, could Northern Virginia see any snow anytime soon? For kids who love to sled and make snowmen (and maybe miss a day or two of school), the answer is no—not this week, at least. In fact, it's just the opposite.

The week starts out chilly Monday in Northern Virginia with highs in the low 40s—normal for January—but expect a warmup for the rest of the week with highs reaching the upper 50s by this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperatures in the high 50s are about 15 degrees above the average high temperatures for January, according to The Weather Channel.

Monday, with a high of 44, will be the chilliest day. Temperatures outside could feel a little colder, with breezes up to 15 mph. Monday night temperatures will plunge to just below freezing, forecasters predict.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see sunny, clear skies and high temperatures in the low to mid-50s, according to the National Weather Service. (The Weather Channel predicts the area will still be in the 40s Tuesday.)

Thursday and Friday, skies will be cloudy to party cloudy, the weather service forecasts. The Weather Channel predicts Northern Virginia has about a 20 to 30 percent chance of seeing showers those days.

By Saturday, the clouds are expected to disperse, and the National Weather Service forecast calls for a picture-perfect day: sunny with highs of 56 degrees.
