Southbound Route 51, Route 88 Closures This Weekend

Expect lots of orange cones.

Motorists from Pittsburgh's South Hills area already dealing with sports traffic and with Liberty Tunnel closures this weekend will also have to handle southbound lane closures on Routes 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) and 88 (Library Road).

However, the timing of the 51 and 88 work should not coincide with the southbound Liberty Tunnel work.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0, in cooperation with Jet Jack, Inc., has announced that southbound (outbound) traffic on Route 51 will be reduced to a single lane from Woodruff Street in Duquesne Heights to Maytide Street in Overbrook from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.

Also, sometime on Saturday and/or Sunday, single-lane traffic will occur in the southbound lane on Route 88 near McNeilly Road in Overbrook (near the Baldwin Township border).

Jet Jack crews will be photographing and performing examinations on existing sanitary manholes on Routes 51 and 88, necessitating the closures.

Motorists are advised to use caution, allow extra time and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.
