Patch Picks: Street-Hockey Spots

The B-W Patch gives you another best-of list in a weekly feature.

The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch presents its newest weekly Patch Picks feature, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.

Here is this week's list, calling out the B-W Patch's selections of the best nearby places to play street hockey:

  • Pleasant Hills Roller Hockey League Rink (Across the street from the Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company on Route 51 sits a beautiful rink that serves as the home of the PHRHL. Of course, you don't have to play with skates if you're organizing a pickup game. Be aware that it often takes a permit to use this rink.)
  •  upper parking lot (A personal favorite of this writer, the upper parking lot at Whitehall Elementary is long and flat and great for street hockey. Of course, it's hard to find a time during the school year when there aren't too many cars in the way. Obviously, it's easier during the summer months.)
  • Brentwood Park (A long and flat basketball court there. At last check, this spot actually HAS NETS!)
  •  (Another long and flat basketball court–adjacent to the tennis courts there. Very well-kept area.)
  • Corrigan Drive In-Line Skating Rink (Pretty hard to find a time when no one's using this excellent spot in nearby South Park Township, but if you can't find your way into a game, the facility boasts bleacher seating for those waiting for their turns.)

So lace 'em up (even if you're just wearing tennis shoes)! And check back each week for more Patch Picks.
