Momsday: The Great Escape

Sunday is ACTUALLY Mother's Day!

Hello, moms! How was your week? Did you manage to get out in between the raindrops to do something for yourself?

This writer went out to lunch on Friday with a couple of friends for a delightful change of pace. So, for those of you wondering if I actually follow my own advice for “Momsdays,” I do!

Now, let’s see what we can find for YOU to do this week!

This week truly is our week, moms. Sunday, after all, is Mother’s Day, so let’s get this straight: We are NOT cooking on Sunday, right?! Pick a restaurant for that day, make reservations and get out of the house! It is our day to spend some quality time with our families, enjoy a great meal and let someone else do the cooking and the dishes for a change.

Most of the restaurants in Baldwin-Whitehall are offering Mother’s Day brunch, lunch and/or dinner specials, so pick your favorite one and go enjoy yourself. Let your family make you feel special for the day.

This leads me to my next idea for you for this week. Why not go out and get your hair and nails done for that special Mother’s Day out? It’s always fun to grab one of your girlfriends and head to Caste Village’s  to get a manicure. You can chat away with your friends and leave with great-looking nails. We can always use a manicure after a week of cleaning the house.

Or maybe head to your favorite hairstylist in Baldwin-Whitehall to get a new ’do for the occasion. The shampooing is always the most relaxing part, isn’t it? And wouldn’t a new style be a great pick-me-up for spring?

Don’t forget that new outfit for your Mother’s Day meal. If you enjoy sewing as a hobby and would like to finish that new outfit that you’ve been working on but just can’t get done in your busy household, head to the  on Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m for “.”

“Sew Much Fun” is an informal get-together for sewers to share ideas and projects with another and to enjoy some peace and quiet to get projects done. You’ll need to take your own sewing machine and supplies with you, but the library will supply the peace and quiet!

The Baldwin Library will be hosting that event every Thursday in May. For more information, you can contact Adult Services Librarian Nancy Musser at 412-885-2255 or at mussern@einetwork.net.

So there you have it, moms–something for yourself this week. No excuses. It is our holiday, after all!

I want to wish all of the moms in Baldwin-Whitehall, including mine, a very happy Mother’s Day! Love you, mom!
