Where?/When?: /Thursday, Sept. 15, 7-8 p.m.
Why Go?: Brian O'Neill, author of The Paris of Appalachia: Pittsburgh in the Twenty-first Century, will be the Whitehall Library's special guest. Speak with the author and get a copy of the book signed! Books will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Register online.
Pricing: Admission is free.

Where?/When?: South Park Theatre/Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 15-17, 8 p.m.
Why Go?: The South Park Theatre presents "Vanities." The play is about agressively vivacious high school cheerleaders and their journey through life. Three women's lives and their friendship diverge as time passes. A bittersweet comedy, the play is an astute snapshot of the lives of these women.
Pricing: Basic admission is $12 for plays, but subscribers pay $10. Discounted rates for groups of 15 or more people are available at $2 off per person.

Where?/When?: 5132 Friendship Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224/Friday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m.
Why Go?: Come learn about the co-housing community in Pittsburgh. The organization is creating a beautiful, green, intergenerational co-housing community in an existing Pittsburgh neighborhood designed to be a model of environmental stewardship, strong neighborly relationships and community engagement. Where?/When?: 292 Curry Hollow Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 (Old Value City Department Store)/Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Why Go?: This huge consignment sale will feature thousands of high-quality children's items, including clothes, toys, strollers, shoes, books and more. The start times of future sales vary, so be sure to check the schedule online.
Pricing: Varies.

Where?/When?: Whitehall Public Library/Saturday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Why Go?: Edible Book Contests have been celebrated around the world since 2000. Participants will create a piece of edible art that relates in some way to books. Edible book creations will be displayed and judged as part of a fun-filled community event. All ages are welcomed as families plan and create together! Judging begins at 11 a.m. Register online. The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch will be there.
Pricing: $2/person; $5/family.

Where?/When?: /Saturday, Sept. 17, Noon to 6 p.m.
Why Go?: Registration begins at noon, followed by practice time for all teams. Teams are made up of two people. There will be prizes for first, second and third place. This event is sponsored by Corona and the Getaway. There will be Corona & Corona Light bottle specials.
Pricing: $2.50/Corona. Entry into the tournament is free.

Where/When: South Park Fairgrounds/Saturday, Sept. 17, Noon.
Why Go: Bring the whole family to South Park Township's "Stars and Stripes" Community Day, which begins with a parade at noon. The event will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Pricing: Admission is free.

Where?/When?: Oliver Miller Homestead on Buffalo Drive in South Park Township/Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Why Go?: The 8th Pennsylvania Regiment will set up camp at the Oliver Miller Homestead grounds and re-enact the day-to-day life of the Revolutionary War soldier. Young soldiers will be recruited and drilled.
Pricing: $2/admission.

Where?/When?: Pottery Barn Kids at The Galleria/Saturday, Sept. 17, 3-5 p.m.
Why Go?: Pottery Barn Kids rolls out the red carpet for the anticipated Blu-ray release of the Star Wars saga. Dress up as your favorite character and bring your camera for a photo op, giveaways and a chance to win a Blu-ray box set.
Pricing: FREE.

Where?/When?: /Saturday, Sept. 17, 8-10 p.m.
Why Go?: The 96.1 KISS-FM Morning Freak Show presents the Coors Light Big Bar Adventure. The last stop on the tour will be this Saturday at the Loose Moose Saloon on Brownsville Road. Come meet local radio celebrities Mikey and Big Bob. The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch will be there.
Pricing: Admission is free.
