1.
Where?/When?: South Park, County Executive's Office or Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum/Friday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Why Go?: Allegheny County's Eighth Annual Phone Card Drive is for U.S. troops who are stationed overseas. Beginning Oct. 17 and continuing through Dec. 10, folks can donate international phone cards on weekdays at the South Park offices, as well as the county executive's office in Room 101 of the county courthouse. Phone cards may also be donated at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Pittsburgh's North Oakland neighborhood from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. All donated phone cards will be distributed among the 171st Air Refueling Wing, 911th Airlift Wing, and 316th Regional Readiness Command. During the first seven years of this phone card drive, Allegheny County has collected more than 590,000 phone card minutes for overseas troops.

Where?/When?: Jefferson Elementary School (Jefferson Hills Borough)/Saturday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m.
Why Go?: Run along the Thomas Jefferson High School cross country course at Jefferson Elementary School. Those running will be given a one-minute head start over "zombie" runners. Participants wear flags (their "lives"), and only those who cross the finish line with both flags still in place will qualify for a prize. Walkers begin one minute after the zombie runners begin. Participants can wear a costume other than a zombie outfit. Refreshments and prizes will be available. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the run begins at 10 a.m. A children's run starts at 11:30 a.m. Click here for registration information.
Pricing: Advanced registration is $15 per adult and $8 per child. Registration the day of is $20 per adult and $12 per child.

Where?/When?: /Saturday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Why Go?: The Baldwin United Presbyterian Church is celebrating the month of October with a special flea market and dinner. The flea market will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the pork and sauerkraut dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Call 412-653-1400 to make reservations.
Pricing: Dinner is $10 per adult and $5 per child aged 5-12.

Where?/When?: Lowe's (Bethel Park)/Saturday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Your kids will love building this awesome monster truck! The kit includes a flashing light and glow-in-the-dark stickers.
Pricing: Free with purchase of supplies.

Where?/When?: Rex Theater/Saturday, Oct. 22, 10:30 a.m.
Why Go?: SteveSongs, from PBS, is coming to Pittsburgh's South Side area for a special concert!

Where?/When?: Saint Pius X Byzantine Catholic Church (Carrick)/Saturday, Oct. 22, 2-8 p.m.
Why Go?: Saint Pius X in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood is holding its annual Ethnic Dinner. Menu items include pierogies, stuffed cabbage, haluska, kolbassi and desserts. Items can be purchased a la carte, or try the sampler platter! A children's menu is available. Dine in or take out.
Pricing: $7-$10.

Where?/When?: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1810 (Brentwood Borough)/Saturday, Oct. 22, 4 p.m.
Why Go?: The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Brentwood is hosting an Oktoberfest featuring a German buffet and polka tunes played by Frank Palombi's Good Times Band.
Pricing: $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Ticket price includes beer, pop and buffet.

Where?/When?: National Aviary/Saturday, Oct. 22, 6-8 p.m.
Why Go?: Enjoy a ghostly but not too scary evening at the National Aviary with plenty of fun for children and adults. The evening will include a costume contest, storytelling, crafts, photo opportunities with Barkley—an Eastern screech owl—and appearances by the aviary's Madagascar hissing cockroaches! Trainers will also fly the aviary's owls in the FliteZone Theater, and halls will be decorated to set the mood. Light snacks will be provided, and the aviary's café will be open for dinner. Pricing: $13 per adult and $11 per child. Members pay $10 per adult and $8 per child.

Where?/When?: South Park/Sunday, Oct. 23, 9 a.m.
Why Go?: The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania is holding its third annual Doggie Walk Party. The party will be held at South Park's Ethelbert Shelter near its Doggy Park and Gazebo. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Click here to register.
Pricing: $25 per first dog & human combination. That price includes one T-shirt and one bandana. Additional dogs (no more than two per human) cost $10 each and include one registration and one bandana.

Where?/When?: Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum/Sunday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m.
Why Go?: Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, the reality TV star and owner of Carlo's Bakery, is back in Pittsburgh for a charity event. Buddy will present his live, two-hour interactive theater show. A portion of the proceeds will go to Family House, Cancer Caring Center and the Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation.
Pricing: Tickets range from $55-$65 per person.
