Baptist, Hamilton Roads to See Crack Sealing Through Oct. 11

The work starts on Monday.

Baptist Road in Whitehall Borough, as well as most of Hamilton Road on Whitehall's border, will undergo crack and joint sealing operations on weekdays from Sept. 30 through Oct. 11, weather permitting, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0.

Sealing operations will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on those days.

Baptist and South Park roads will see the work between Brownsville Road in Whitehall and McMurray Road in Bethel Park. Hamilton will be affected between Route 88 in Castle Shannon Borough and Baptist (on the border of Whitehall and Bethel Park).

Crack and joint sealing is a preservation activity that prolongs the life of road surfaces by preventing moisture from entering cracks and joints. Moisture can cause potholes and premature deterioration requiring costly repairs.

Matcon Diamond Inc. will perform the work.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the work areas.
