School of Glee is looking for high school and middle school-aged kids who have a passion for pop music and singing. No voice training or musical experience is required. School of Glee teaches songs by ear so members don't need to read music. The first auditions will be on Thursday, February 7 from 6:00-8:00 at the Whitehall Borough Building (this will be the normal weekly rehearsal time). Auditions are in the form of workshops. The audition groups will be taught a song to gauge how well directors and singers work together. You don't need to prepare anything. School of Glee hopes to break some of the conventions of typical choirs by taking a rock and roll approach. No bow ties and cummerbunds. No stuffy 17th-century Latin pieces. School of Glee puts their own twist on great pop music with exciting arrangements and interesting instrumentation. School of Glee is the choir that rocks!

School of Glee started in the fall of 2012 by husband and wife team, Jack and Lynnette Kelley. Their niece and three of her friends from South Fayette High School agreed to be the test subjects for the Kelley's musical experiment, which turned out to be a great success. The girls had no trouble learning songs by ear and were harmonizing beautifully within minutes. The girls performed one of their arrangements (a mash-up of "Tip-toes" by Jayme Dee and "Faith" by George Michael) at The Gifts of Dance Showcase this past December.

Jack and Lynnette are not voice coaches or music theorists, but do have years of musical experience from rock bands to church choirs. This experience, coupled with their enthusiasm for pop music, should lead to a unique choir.

Now, School of Glee has a new rehearsal space at the Whitehall Borough Building and would like to find a bunch of kids who love to sing. While there is no cost to join the choir, donations of musical instruments and equipment may be accepted.
