Retail Theft Charge at Caste Village Giant Eagle

officers responded to a retail theft report at the Giant Eagle at around 2:39 p.m. on Jan. 4.

A manager at that reported that a man tried to walk out of the store that day with five DVDs—valued at a total of $94.95—without paying for them.

Store employees detained the man—Brian Fields, 34, of 131 Merritt Ave. in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood—and called the Whitehall police, who came to the store and reported that Fields had five DVDs in his possession in a plastic bag.

Police are charging Fields with retail theft and are ordering him not to enter Giant Eagle property. UPDATE: The charge was .

Marijuana Charges from Prospect Park Apartment 

police officers received multiple reports at around 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 6 that there was possible drug use at 1725 Skyline Drive in the area.

The officers went to that building and reported detecting the odor of marijuana coming from Apt. 37. They also reported seeing a cloud of smoke inside of that apartment when someone answered its front door. 

The officers eventually received a warrant to search Apt. 37 and reported finding marijuana.

As a result of that search, the officers arrested Melvin Augustino Dias, 25, of 407 Russellwood Ave. in McKees Rocks Borough, and charged him with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Whitehall police Chief Donald R. Dolfi said that the incident is still under investigation.

Items Taken from Vehicles on Sheila Court 

A resident of Sheila Court contacted the Whitehall police at around 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 7 to report a theft.

The resident said that, sometime during the previous night, two of her vehicles were illegally entered into and that one or more people took belongings from inside of one of them.

Police officers inspected the vehicles and learned that they were accidentally left unlocked. A wallet, electronics and school materials were taken from one of the vehicles. The wallet had personal identification and gift cards inside of it.

The school materials were eventually found by a neighbor in that neighbor's front yard and returned to their owner.

The victim said that she went to bed at around 11 p.m. the evening before and did not hear or see anything suspicious around her vehicles. She also said that her dogs were quiet throughout the night.

The incident is under investigation.

"Flirting" Leads to Disorderly Conduct Charge in Prospect Park Area 

A woman in the 1821 Parkline Drive building of the Prospect Park area contacted the Whitehall police at around 5:45 a.m. on Jan 8 to report that she was recently attacked.

When officers arrived at the building that day, they were met by the woman who had requested them. Police report the woman as saying that she and some friends had gathered in an apartment inside of that building the night before.

The woman said that a 16-year-old girl had also arrived at that apartment during the night and began "flirting" with the woman's boyfriend.

The woman said that she asked the girl to leave, and at that point, an argument ensued that led to the girl attacking the woman before other people in the apartment restrained the girl.

Police were able to contact the girl. She is being charged with disorderly conduct.
