It wasn't too long ago that this writer would frequent the Curry Commons shopping center in Baldwin Borough for a hoagie from Mariana's Pizza or a carton of iced tea from the corner mini-mart.
Man, what was the name of that place? Haf-Mart?
In any event, those stores are long gone, and with them has come vacancies along Curry Road.
But Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services has those properties available for lease, and the annual rent, according to the Burns & Scalo website, is negotiable.
Currently occupying space at Curry Commons are places like Salvatore's (banquet hall), South Hills Embroidery (apparel and design shop) and McCoy's Pub (bar/restaurant), among others. Across the street is Legacy Lanes (bowling) and a couple of auto repair shops.
The Curry Commons address is 5001-5031 Curry Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236, just south of Whitehall Borough.
If someone were to rent a Curry vacancy from Burns & Scalo, what would you like to see happen there? What is needed in that area?

I would of put the Dunken Donuts there as a anchor. Also a neighborhood hair salon, A building supply facility/hardware store, a used car lot, Starbucks, a gas station/convenient store. A cleaners, auto parts store. There are many uses. Someone just has to take that first step.

When the Shopping Center opened during the mid-late 50's, the anchor store there was a Loblaw supermarket. My family's physician (Dr. Vasilopoulos) had an office their during the 60's. Since the area is not high traffic the remaining part of the center woild not be suited for a C-Store, gas station or supermarket. However, it would be well suited for a Starbucks as there are none in the area as well as professional offices.

A Tim Hortons Coffee shop would be great. They are from Canada and now have a shop in Erie (one in Pennsylvania), Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, New York and New England States. They are so much better than Starbucks and cheaper too.
A Dollar General, Dollar Tree would be perfect for the area.
