REOPENED: Streets Run Road Closure Lifted

Read here for the latest update.

The project detailed below is complete, and the intersection has reopened.

 ...

A very busy portion of Streets Run Road—from Route 51 on the border of Baldwin and Whitehall boroughs to Delwar Road in West Mifflin Borough—will see a lengthy thru-traffic closure in both directions from Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 5-7, as crews will work to replace the road surface at a nearby railroad crossing.

Specifically, the at-grade rail crossing is found near Baldwin's four-way intersection of Streets Run, East Willock and Doyle roads (between East Willock and Missionary Drive), and work there is expected to last from 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, until approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 7.

According to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0, in cooperation with the Allegheny Valley Railroad Company, about 14,618 vehicles use Streets Run Road in this area on an average day. Crews will work around-the-clock to complete the project.

Posted detours:

Streets Run Road

Southbound

  • Turn left onto Delwar Road.
  • Follow Delwar Road to Lebanon Church Road.
  • Turn right and follow Lebanon Church west to Route 51.
  • Take Route 51 north back to Streets Run Road.

Northbound

  • Same detour in the opposite direction

And really, why not? It's already a nightmare to get anywhere other than within 4 blocks of where you live during morning rush hour here in the "Corridor". While they are at it, someone should install crossing gates at all of the crossings. People were on the tracks the other day while a train was approaching.

Thanks for this update. I travel this daily to work and did not see any posting of this construction.

They wouldn't need a gate if people weren't in a rush to beat the train. When the lights start flashing red, it is your responsibility to STOP. We all took driving test and read the book to drive, and one of the rules in the book is about Rail Road Crossing and Flashing Red Lights. Trains Engineers wouldn't have to blow the Whistle either if people wouldn't try to beat the train.

Oh please, half of streets run road is 25 mph, and I get constantly passed by cars going 50 as if i'm going to slow, I'm sick of it and I'm tired of being tailgated on that road as if going the speed limit is such an inconvenience to people!!

JJ1 I have to agree with you about being passed on Streets Run Road when you drive the speed limit and they fly by you. Just with the train that crosses over the road, people try to beat the trains and have seen many of close calls because people are in a rush.

Not the best timing to do this closure on Halloween. Parents will be rushing to get home in time to get kids dressed, eat dinner and wait for for trick-or-treaters. Thanks for the heads-up.

With the weather emergency coming I doubt that these dates will be accurate at all.

Bring back the whining female Baldwin police officer. Put a stop sign in her hand and let her direct traffic in the cold rain. After all it sure beats working in a warm office.
