Site of Whitehall Homicide for Sale
Howard Hanna has listed the Brant Drive house at $154,900. Joseph Manning faces an Aug. 31 hearing.
Joseph R. Manning, 75, is still waiting to face Allegheny County Judge Donna Jo McDaniel on Aug. 31 on a criminal homicide charge, but in the meantime, Manning's home is for sale.
Nothing terribly special there, except that his home—1146 Brant Dr. in Whitehall Borough—is the site of the homicide.
Whitehall police were called to Manning's residence at around 3:30 p.m. on March 31, where, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, his 71-year-old wife, Mary Manning, was found dead.
"Mrs. Manning appeared to have suffered massive head trauma, and investigators found a blood-stained pipe wrench near her feet, according to a police criminal complaint," the Post-Gazette's story reads.
Brant Drive sits just off of Teal Drive near Streets Run Road and the Eat'n Park on Route 51.
According to the Allegheny County Assessment website, the Mannings owned 1146 Brant since 1971.
Howard Hanna Real Estate Services has listed the Manning house for sale at $154,900. It is zoned for residential use only.
Taxes per year on the four-bedroom dwelling are $5,154. There are two full bathrooms, one partial bathroom, a living room, a sunroom, a dining room, a kitchen, a family room, a laundry room and a den.
There is central air conditioning, and the house has gas heat.
The house, part of the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, is 45 years old.

Had to reject one comment for use of the term "murder." There has not been a murder conviction regarding this case.

Wouldn't you consider homicide and murder just about the same thing? There wasn't a homicide in there either if there wasn't any convction.

I always thought that murdered meant to kill someone but here is the definition from dictionary.com for both Murder and Homicide
Murder - "Law defination . the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder)."
Homicide "the killing of one human being by another. A person who kills another; murderer.

I wouldn't want to purchase this home for what happened at the house. In Pennsylvania a Real Estate Agent has to disclose if someone died, committed suicide or was killed in the home. This can be iffy on older homes as their might not be records of it, or if the homeowner didn't disclose it to the agent. If a person find out that someone died in the home and it wasn't disclosed before the closing then the person who is buying the home has a right to back out and get back all hand money that was put on the home. If they find out after they can hold the previous homeowner and real estate agent in contempt for 5 years after the closing date.

I have a question about the disclosure process - does a prospective buyer need to ask the realtor about the home's history? And are there other things that we might want to know about a house's history? While I'm at it, I know this will seem silly to some, can you ask if the seller has had any supernatural experiences or hauntings while they lived there?

Anne they are suppose to disclose to you if someone died, was killed or committed suicide in the home before you purchase it. If you find out before a closing you can back out and get hand money back that you put on home because they didn't disclose this information to you. Yes Anne you can ask that also about ghost, if the home was built on a cemetery and that has to be disclosed if you ask. You can also do your own research on the home your interested in.

Robert- Sorry but I still have to disagree with you. Even if you look up the word homicide in the Merriam Webster dictionary it says when a person is killed by a person. Still the same as murder if you ask me. I seriously doubt that she hit herself in the head with the pipe wrench, possible but highly unlikely. I guess we might have to agree to disagree. I just think the title should say Site of Whitehall Possible Homicide for Sale.

Ah, but a person killing another person is not always murder (self-defense, accidents, war). Homicide but not necessarily murder.
We won't label anything a murder until the courts hash it out.

Anne- good question. I wouldn't want to move into that house but I really wouldn't have a problem moving into a house where someone died naturally. There are a lot of houses where someone died. I know of three just around me. A lot of people don't believe in ghosts or hauntings. I am not one of them since I have seen many ghosts. One time when I lived in Squirrel Hill and were looking for a house we looked at one in Mt. Lebanon. When the real estate lady was showing us the house I saw a ghost walk through one room. I thik she saw it too but didn't say anything. I could tell by the look on her face. I didn't say anything either. It was a beautiful house but after that I really decided I didn't want that one.

Now Margaret when I die I want to haunt my neighbor that has been a pain to us for the last 20 years. I want to tear her yard up at night, unscrew all the bulbs she has in the 20 lights around her property that are on 24/7. Keep on Knocking and Ringing her door bell at all hours of the night. Go in her garage and leave all the air out of her tires. Might even borrow a neighbors fire pit and start and light it in her back yard. I would have a blast at getting back at her.

When I think about it I will once in a while too. I will throw mud on her driveway, or better yet dog do. I will make sure all the leaves blow onto her precious grass and also rearrange her mail in her mailbox. I will get her garbage back out of the garbage can down Caste and drop it back off on her driveway, will set fireworks off onto her yard and roof. Let me think of what else. I will open all her windows so she can smell firepits, Oh, and throw stuff all around the corner of her house so that she takes forever to pick it all up every day with her newspaper bag. Do you know who I mean?

I tell Uncle Helix all the time that if he sees defecation in his toilet time and again, his house is haunted by his father who never used to flush! Haha. Lol. Too much info to share but since we are all being silly, I wanted to partake.
