Scholarships, Awards Given at Sports Banquet
Baldwin High School held its All Sports Banquet on Sunday and gave out awards to deserving student-athletes.
Baldwin High School's annual All Sports Banquet was held at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South hotel on Sunday.
The Baldwin-Whitehall Athletic Booster Association donated a $2,500 scholarship to one female and one male student, and winners of those scholarships were Laura Hall and Mike Markunas. The students were asked to submit essays that were judged by faculty members to determine the winners.
Hall was also the recipient of the annual Karpa Award, given to the male or female senior letter winner who displays loyalty, devotion, a sense of humor and a deep concern for others, and offers the greatest overall contribution to Baldwin Athletics.
Taylor Wentzel, a basketball standout, was honored as Baldwin's 2011-12 female Bress Award winner, which recognizes the district's female athlete of the year. Eric Michalski, who starred in both soccer and basketball for Baldwin, was chosen as the male Bress winner.
The head coaches of all Baldwin sports teams and the Athletics Department staff annually select the Karpa and Bress winners.
