UPDATE: Baptist Road Reopened

A broken water line was to blame.

UPDATE (11:17 p.m., Nov. 28, 2012): Baptist Road has reopened in all directions.

 ...

Crews from the Pennsylvania American Water Company remain on Baptist Road in Whitehall Borough, repairing a broken water line between the Baptist-Grove Road and Baptist-Lachman Road intersections (above the Caste Village Giant Eagle).

The water line broke on Wednesday morning, according to a worker at the scene, and Whitehall police officers are there now preventing any traffic from heading south past Grove Road (toward Bethel Park).

Earlier in the day, flaggers were allowing traffic to head both ways through the work area, but that is no longer the case as different trucks need space to head to and from the scene to help to repair a large hole left by the replacement of the broken pipe.

I remember one time that happened right by my house and I was the first house downhill of it. It took the water company a LONG time to shut it off. OMG, my house was under water. My basement was flooded. It knocked down two retaining walls. What a MESS. I will never forget that. It is amazing the damage a waterbreak can do, and flash flooding.

I remember that incident too. That was crazy. I remember standing barefoot in the street as the water gushed past my feet. A lot of force behind that!

Some people don't realize what force can be behind what looks like a little stream. I remember walking in it too. What a mess.

Last week, I slide on ice in front of one of those house right after you make the bend. Scared myself half to death. Thank God, there was enough for me to slide and not hit the guy in front of me. As I continued to see ice there every day, I had a feeling this would happen. When I lived in Penn Hills, the house we lived in we noticed that happening too. My mom had called the water authority and they fixed it before the break became a huge mess.

This was no water gushing break that burst through the road, Last week I saw a PAWC worker marking the water lines in the street. They knew that they were going to dig up the road for a repair and didnot tell the resdients. They did not start work until after 11am, I came home from work at 4 pm to find my water shut off. I have 5 kids in my house. We had to orderr out because we could not cook. I had to carry buckets of water from the hydrand at grove to flush my tolets. PAWC knew they were going to do this and did not give us residents a chance to prepair.

Vince, does the water company have your phone number? PAWC always calls me and leaves a message when anything in the area might disrupt my service. I think they will also send messages to I phones or such devices, not sure, but a call to PAWC should provide specifics.

Just like the privilege never gets asked for photo ID when they fly, go to the doctors or hospital, gets xrays or blood work done they are the only one that gets a personal phone call when water is being shut off. Do I believe any of this bull no, but get a laugh as they live in fantasy land. Maybe Robert needs to do a survey on how many people get a call from PAWC when there is a water main break.

Matt, if you have never received a phone notification such as I have (most recent was a few months ago regarding line flushing scheduled in the area and possibility of discolored water), I think you have to opt in to this service, providing your home or cell number. It's an automated system, not a personal call.
Who is it that you imagine said they did not need to show ID when flying? I know I always show my passport at the airport, don't you?
As to the other things you list, I can only speak to doctors office and blood lab.
True, MY doctors office never asks me for photo ID, but of course they do KNOW ME. As to blood lab, I was just there this week, and there was a big sign stating to have your ID and insurance card ready, but no one asked to see it.
Blood test results were all excellent btw. No need for xrays or hospital visits.
