Please note that he also said that it is up to the individual state to decide what is right for their citizens. This was a personal opinion not a plank in hIs platform.

How do you know that it is not his plank or platform? How do you know that if this guy wins another term, he will not push for a federal law allowing/mandating gay "marriage?" After all, he said he wants to transform America. What greater way to transform it than by destroying it's social ethics and mores?

- Gay marriage would destroy social ethics, really? What a joke, the divorce rate in this country is over 50%! Gay people should be able to marry and divorce in the same way men and women do.

And Christian evangelicals are leading the way in the divorce category......such hypocrisy! We all deserve to love and marry the person of our choosing.

Gay marriage will not destroy social ethics or this country..gays should have the same rights to married who they love just as we do.

I would just love to know how allowing gays to marry will personally impact YOUR life? If you believe it's wrong for religious reasons, will YOU be judged for that come judgement day? Everybody sins in some form or fashion - nobody is perfect thus why Jesus died for our sins. As a Christian I don't feel it's my responsibility to judge - I feel it's my responsiblity to love all regardless of sexual preference. I will be judged come judgement day for the choices I made not the choices others made. The bottom line is that there will continue to be gay people in the world regardless of if you let them marry or not so why do you care if they are allowed to be married?

It has already impacted insurance premiums. If you were married, you used to be able to get insurance for your husband/wife at a reasonable cost. NOW that insurance companies have to factor in how many MORE domestic partners will be added. Rates have at least doubled. These companies will not say it, but Gay couples have a risker lifestyle.

Read the Bible, please! Just remember this Sunday to stay away from bacon and don't ever eat at Red Lobster. The next time a girl you know has her time of the month be sure she stays away from your village for the week and then makes the proper sacrifice before she is allowed back.

The social ethics of our society as a whole are pathetic. We live in a society of criminals, liars, adulterers and people who dont give a crap about others. Allowing gays to get married should be the least of our worries. In order for societal standards to work in lieu of such differences, certain practices, which are deemed acceptable by the majority, are generally heeded within a society. This may include sharing with others, doing good deeds, and acknowledging different viewpoints. Social ethics also involves acceptance. People, as a whole, should respect the rights of all others, regardless of individual beliefs.

Why is this still an issue?? If 2 consenting adults choose to make this kind of commitment to one another, that should be their right. I see comments like the above in other forums but never an explanation. Please explain how this will "destroy social ethics and mores".

Gays should be allowed to marry. Give me an argument that wasn't used in the 1960's by people against interracial marriages and I'll take you seriously.

Obama's was purely a political move.

You are correct there, this was only a political move on his part. He was against gay marriages till Biden said it was o.k. For as many people agree with this, there is a lot of people that won't vote for him for the same reason.

I know I didn't vote for him before and sure won't be voting for him in November.

As opposed to all other politicians who never pander to their base? Who are those politicians, exactly?

Every politician will say and do whatever they can to get votes. Basic human rights should not be political issues. This country is so divided. Too divided. It makes me sad. Everyone deserves to be happy.

Why is this fool even talking about supporting gay marriage? What does this have to do with getting this nation back on track economically and getting people employed and off unemployment? This guy is a true carnival flim-flam man. Unbelievable that people support this jokester.

bd, People spends millions of dollars every year on weddings. Don't you think there will be a boost of gay marriages? This will ultimately put money back into the system & get people to start spending. The more people spend, the better the economy gets.

Jean Smith

So caterers will make money, people baking the cake with make money, a dress shop will make money, don't see gay marriages having a big impact on the economy at all. I doubt jobs will be created because of this. obama just wants votes and he is sucking up to gay people now for them.

Pamela - So, gay marriage is Obama's way to save the economy? He needs to add that to his ridiculous TV commercial. There are 12.5 million Americans out of work (probably more than that since the government does not count those no longer looking for work). He has no plan to help these folks but gays and lesbians go to the top of his concern. We must be living in Bizarro World.

The economy has created 4.5 million jobs since he's been around. That isn't anything little considering how many were lost each year the years before he took his oath. And, who exactly were homosexuals voting for before his announcement? The guy who signed a pledge vowing to never allow marriage equality??? I don't think so.

BMF - You really believe that lie from his ad? His math is way off. He claims in his campaign ad that there were “4.4 million American jobs lost” in 2008 prior to Obama’s presidency. That's a don't blame me, blame Bush tactic that he always falls back on because he cannot accept responsibility for his failures which are many. This job loss figure is a lie because according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 2.8 million jobs were lost in 2008. A full 1.6 million less than his campaign ad claims, meaning he inflated the number by almost 40%. Then there is the lie that he created 4.2 million jobs (not 4.5 millon). Another BIG lie. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the total number of Americans employed has shrank 322,000 under Obama; from 142.187 million in January 2009 to 141.865 million last month. How can Obama create 4.2 million jobs throughout his presidency when total employment has actually shrunk by 322,000? The Flim-Flam Man strikes again.

No. I don't think that is his intention, but anything will help. It's time for America to move forward. Keep in mind that abortions were illegal up until 1973; I can't imagine a world where abortions were illegal. It's all anout change & I think it's overdue. The government & religion shouldn't mix. That is my opinion.

Pamela, everyone is entitled to their own opinion on gay marriages. It is exactly his intention to get votes from people and is using the gay people for this reason only. If he was in favor of them prior, then he would of said something before. It is all political
