Pittsburgh Zoo's 2013 Calendar Features Painted Dogs
The dogs mauled a 2-year-old Whitehall boy to death in early November.
Less than a month after 2-year-old Maddox Derkosh of Whitehall Borough was mauled to death at the Pittsburgh Zoo, news has surfaced that the zoo's 2013 calendar features African painted dogs, the same species that killed the boy in early November.
Zoo officials say that the calendars, featuring the dogs in its March spreads, had already been printed and made available to patrons before Derkosh's death, according to this Huffington Post article.
Maddox was visiting the zoo with his mother on Nov. 4 when he fell from the top of a platform railing to the ground inside of the pit area of the dogs' exhibit, according to a statement from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
Pittsburgh police said that the child lost his balance after his mother lifted him in a standing position onto the 4-foot-high wooden railing that overlooks the enclosure.
Should the calendars be pulled from shelves? Tell us why or why not in the comments section below.

Could we possibly put this horrible incident behind us? This post is just going to bring the heartless "mom bashers" out from the dark places where they live. It`s really time to move on & let the poor family grieve in peace.

Some may agree with you, but I certainly don't feel comfortable ignoring this topic.

Leave it be, the calendar is done, the animals did nothing wrong. Pulling the calendar or changing it would be unnecessary expense on the zoo.
If the calendar bothers someone they should buy a truck for the Maddox truck collection events instead.

I agree this tragic incident should be put behind for now as more news and events will come out in due time. Christmas is going to be painful for the Maddox family as it is for anyone who lost a loved one this year. We should respect the family's privacy and support the Maddox truck collection as the family desired.
