Why did the pig cross the Parkway? Apparently, to go "wee wee wee" all the way home. The piggy going to market, however, must have taken the bus.

A little pig seen running on the Parkway West near Green Tree Borough on Wednesday morning created quite a stir and backed up traffic during a rush-hour commute into Pittsburgh.

A motorist tweeted a photo of the animal running on the inbound lanes that immediately went viral and caused a commotion on social media websites. It also led to jokes from people suggesting that the city be renamed Pigsburgh in honor of the loose swine.

No one is sure how the "Pig on the Parkway" found its way onto the road or where it went, not even Pennsylvania Department of Transportation workers monitoring the situation from traffic cameras.

"No one here saw the pig, only the subsequent congestion," PennDOT spokesman James B. Struzzi II said. "We were not involved."

However, Struzzi admitted that the barrage of tweets and media inquiries did lead to "lots of barbecue jokes" this morning.

Did you see the pig today? Do you know where it is now? Tell us in the comments section below.
