Thanks to the time and talent of a loyal patron, the Whitehall Public Library boasts a seasonal addition to its recently remodeled lobby.

A holiday "book tree" now stands in the lobby as a complement to the library's welcoming entrance.

When library Director Paula Kelly saw a similar-looking tree posted somewhere online over the past year, Kelly printed out a photo of that tree and showed it to a regular Whitehall Library patron that she knew to be a handyman.

The patron, who has asked to remain anonymous, took the photo home and devised a plan to construct a similar one for Whitehall Borough.

"I love being able to tap into our local talent," Kelly said while also referencing another project in the library's lobby. "We had another library patron design and upholster the lobby's window-seat cushion.

"It's an expression of library support that becomes very personal for everyone, and it further enhances the library's connection to the community and vice versa."
